A new wave of coordinated airstrikes carried out by Nigerian forces in partnership with the United States has resulted in heavy losses for armed extremist groups in the north-east region. The operations were conducted on Monday as part of an ongoing counterterrorism campaign targeting insurgent strongholds.

According to the Nigerian military, this third phase of airstrikes led to the neutralization of at least 175 militants. The strikes specifically targeted camps, hideouts, and logistical bases used by jihadist groups to organize attacks against civilians and security forces.

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed its support for the operation and praised the effectiveness of military cooperation between both countries. U.S. officials highlighted that such joint actions are essential in strengthening regional stability and improving counterterrorism capabilities across West Africa.

Military sources indicated that the strikes were based on intelligence reports identifying active militant positions. The targeted locations were believed to be key operational centers for groups linked to Boko Haram and other insurgent factions active in the Lake Chad Basin.

Despite these reported successes, security experts warn that jihadist groups remain active in several remote areas of the Sahel region. They continue to recruit fighters, carry out sporadic attacks, and adapt their tactics in response to ongoing military pressure.

The situation remains fragile, and authorities emphasize that sustained cooperation and long-term security strategies will be necessary to prevent the resurgence of extremist violence in the region.
